The University of St Andrews Surgical Society was established in 2009 and recognised by the Student Union as an affiliated society in 2010. It arranges talks from eminent surgeons on future surgical careers and cutting-edge research. Suturing classes take place once or twice a semester and in addition to other crucial skills such as creating a surgical airway and theatre etiquette. In 2012 the society held its first national conference; its second conference took place in March 2013.
